update

Last week we went camping in beautiful Vermont and enjoyed a 3 day pottery class with some friends. I'm thinking about getting a kiln, as Sophie especially loves working with clay and this would enable her to be able to work as much as she wants at home. Vermont was great--we picked bags and bags of organic blueberries for free, swam in the West River, hung out in Brattleboro, and went tubing on the White River.

This week has been difficult--we just make the decision to put down our beloved 13 year old cat Baxter, who apparently had liver cancer. He was the in-your-face (not the under-the-bed) kind of cat, very loving and friendly. The kids have had him their whole lives. I've been thinking back a bit to my life 13 years ago when I got him. We found a vet who would come to the house, and he's buried out in the backyard.

One of the things I love about homeschooling is not sending my kids off to school in September. For a good laugh check out this Onion article on schools. http://www.theonion.com/content/news/6_year_old_stares_down_bottomless

And if you want a gentle hug here's some Dar Williams. I've seen her live a couple of times--she's so great. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lciR7aBzpmc
