Bummer! Was that your chicken? Very nice pictures of the hawk, though! We had a nesting pair of Red Tail Hawks living in plain view above our chicken coop last year. We mainly saw them eating mice and we were grateful, but we knew the day would come when our chickens would be the target! We were glad when for some unknown reason they moved on.
Yes, sadly that was our Auraucana chicken Beauty. But it was very cool to see the red tail up close. We watched her eating from about 5 feet away and she couldn't have been less interested in us.

Wow, what great pictures! Sad for the chicken, good for the hawk. When I saw the fox in our yard with the chicken in his mouth it was hard not to be very angry and want to own a big gun. What a circle of life lesson in the front yard and a new feeding station for the fox.
